Hello, I'm Kate

[Holistic, Trauma-Informed]

Registered Social Worker, Psychotherapist

I'm here to support adults with anxiety attacks/panic attacks, depression, stress, burn out, relationship issues/break ups, trauma, adhd, disorderly eating, intersecting issues, somatic symptoms, and many other mental health struggles. I offer safe and relaxed therapy sessions for women, health-care workers (nurses, doctors, social workers) and teachers, post-secondary students, and queer and trans folk. My passion is to empower people to live their authentic lives despite the challenges that cross their path.

I utilize DBT, CBT, SFBT, and EFT with a holistic, trauma-informed, anti-oppressive approach. I consider your mind, body, spirit, and environment when discussing issues and resolutions. I have availability in-person in Peterborough, or online/virtually from anywhere across Ontario.

Mental Health Concerns

Areas of mental health I can support you with.

Anxiety

Anxiety is an emotion described as feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physiological and physical changes like stomach issues and increased blood pressure, respectively.

Anxiety and fear are not the same. Anxiety has people worried about the future, with a long-acting response focused on a diffuse threat. Fear is a definite threat that is short-lived and present-oriented.

Trauma

Trauma is an emotional response to a negative experience. These experiences can be "big" or "small". We have very minimal control, if any, to our initial response to this trauma. It is common to experience denial and shock after the event and longer-term effects can be unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and physiological symptoms like headaches or nausea.

Stress

Stress is a normal response to everyday pressures. It becomes a problem if it interrupts your daily functioning. Ongoing stress like these changes almost every system of your body, including feelings and behaviour. This directly impacts psychological and physiological disorders and disease, reducing quality of life.
